The pictures show the same pose (asana) as it would be done by both a beginner using props, and a more experienced student without props.
The use of props is an important part of Iyengar Yoga, as it allows you to experience the benefit of most poses right from the start, even if you aren’t that flexible. As you progress, and your body becomes stronger and more flexible, you will gradually remove the props until you feel comfortable going it alone!
